This picture was made to illustrate a chapter from the children’s story “Gideon and the Magic Myrtle” by Myra Hamilton. these days people probably think of Harry Potter and Dumbledore! It’s signed by the artist, H. R. Millais, in the upper left corner.
I also made a detail with just the wizard and candle.
…. he descended from the ramparts and went in to the darkest cellar beneath the castle and proceeded to consult the Wise Wizard who lived there, for, like all well-born folk who owned a castle, the robber had his own private man of magic. (p. 369)
