Notes:


The ruins of Llanthony Abbey, later converted into farm buildings. The priory was built around the year 1200 by the Augustinians, but some three hundred years later the church had become corrupt and was nationalized by King Henry VIII in 1538; the abbey fell into ruin.

This picture is described on the title page as a Rembrandt Photogravure, which is to say a printing plate made from a photograph using a secret process at the Rembrandt Intaglio Printing Company of Lancaster and London.
