Queen Elizabeth I was entertained here in 1564 by the owner and original builder, Henry, grandson of one Morgan Williams of Glamorganshire, wife to the sister of Oliver Comwell. The house was sold in 1627 to a younger brother of the Earl of Mancheter.

Today this mansion is open to the public.
