A class of decorations of a distinctive character arise from the ground being wholly covered with ornament; but as the construction of this form of pattern (Plate XXIV.) is attended with difiiculty, the shapes frequently becoming cramped and imperfect unless great care is exercised, it should be the last class of pattern attempted by the student. This form of composition has its analogue in water crystallized on glass, as the frost on the window, rather than in any portion of the plant.
