A smiling boy, wearing somewhat tattered clothing and barefoot, stands holding perhaps turnips in one hand and with the other a sack over his shoulder. The clothes look warm enough for early Autumn, and there are indeed leaves on the ground at his feet.
The original title in the book is given as Un rapazuelo, and it is an engraving of a picture painted by Ludovico (Ludwig) Knaus, a German painter who flourished especially in the second half of the 19th century.
