This is said to be the oldest surviving wooden church in England, and is dedicated to Saint Andrew. It was built within 50 years of the Norman Conquest (before or after), probably in place of an older church in the same spot, of which there are still some remains.

The picture is subtitled Vetusta Monumenta, suggesting it was copied from Vetusta monumenta quae ad Rerum Britanicarum memoriam conservandam Societas Antiquariorum Londini sumptu suo edenda curavit, a series of collected antiquarian papers on ancient buildings and so forth starting in 1747.

The church is called Greensted today, not Greenstead as in this caption.
