Our Father Who Art In Heaven more
typography, borders, relgion, christianity, biblical texts, gold
This is a “carpet page” from the Holman Family Bible, printed in red, blue, black, and gold, and light green for leaves and decorations.
A column on the left, with quasi-medieval Gothic Revival Victorian decoration, says The Lods Prayer, in exuberant lettering. Then the main text is the Lord’s Prayer from the 1662 Book of Common Prayer.
Note that there are some mistranslations in this text (and in the King James Bible version from 1611), including that “daily bread’ is not in the Greek manuscripts we have, but rather, “necessary bread” or “the food we need”.
The idea that God’s love is conditional, though, is not a mistranslation: God fogives our wrongdoing only to the extent that we forgive others, and this is illustrated by parables as well as here.
In the same way, the shepherds in Lukes Gospel say not, “Peace on Earth and good will to all men” but instead, “Pease on Earth to all men of good will”—but this is uncomfortable teaching for people in power.
