A mature tree is growing in a wooden planter held in shape with an iron ring. There’s an apple drawn on either side to tell us, if the shape of the tree did not, that it is an apple tree.

This woodcut of a tree was used as a tailpiece, a decorative way to mark the end of a chapter.
