St. Lawrence and St. Vincent more
saints, men, bare feet, religion, books, reading, romance, christianity, iconography, martyrs
Saint Lawrence here is standing holding an open book which the young and beautiful Saint Vincent of Saragoosa is reading through half-lidded eyes. Saint Vincent is shown seated on a bench, one bare foot protruding from under his deacons’ robe.
Vincent was said to have distributed wealth to the poor of Rome, and to have been burned to death in Valencia 304 on an iron griddle. Part-way through he was said to have remarked that he was cooked well enough on one side and should be turned over to be better to eat.
St. Lawrence was also broiled on a grid-iron, in 258.
St. Lawrence here is gazing at St. Vincent Martyr, perhaps admiring his beauty.
