The picture shows a battle between knights in shining armour and the soldiers of Diabolus the Nasty Giant. A sally is when knights charge, usually on horseback, out of a besieged castle to fight the enemy. Here Lord Will-be-Will is I think the knight with the spiked mace in the right-hand foreground; other knights in the background are on horseback and there are arrows in the air. In the far distance a castle.
