St.Elizabeth of Hungary (1207 – 1231) is a patron saint of bakers, beggars, brides, charities and of the death of children. She was a princess and at the age of sixteen was taught by Franciscan friars; she wore simple clothes and distributed bread to the poor. The main scene illustrated in this picture is when her brother-in-law accused her of stealing treasures from the castle to give to the poor; she opened her cloak and instead of treasures, everyone saw roses instead, and they took it as a sign that her God protected her.
At lower left is the miracle of the leper in the bed.
The six scenes in ths picture are contained in rustic borders of twigs.
