Notes:

A portrait of Isaac Newton based on a painting by Enoch Seeman (credited here in its German form, E. Seemann). It was engraved by someone named only as Baumann, possibly J W Baumann, about whom little seems to be known.

Newton is shown here in half-profile, wearing a neckerchief, neck-tie or cravat, his eyes looking sideways at the viewer.

The dark background is typical of portraits by Enoch Seeman, who was originally German but moved to London. It is likely based on the portait Seeman made between 1726 and 1730, although a number of details differ.

The original print in the book has a double-line border and a copperplate-style cursive caption saying Isaak Newton.

Newton has a pronounced double chin in this portrait, and somewhat differently styled clothing and hair, but the face is the same.

See also another portrait of Sir Isaac Newton that would be easier to reproduce in print.
