Decorative initial letter “M” – Roman military standard more
This decorative initial letter “M” was used sa a drop cap at the start of the chapter; it is in the shape of a Roman standard that might have been carried by a legion of soldiers, and contains various symbols of the Roman Empire such as the eagle.
This initial is part of an alphabet Initialen in antiken Stil (Initials in the antique style), and was produced at the Otto Weisert type foundry in Stuttgart in the 19th century.
