The Tomb of Jonas, in Ashod, Israel more
tombs, building, shores, beaches, waves, water, hills, boats, sailing boats
The buildings shown here are in or near Ashdod in Israel: Neby Yûnas: the tomb of the prophet Jonah, who was, it is said, swallowed up by a large fish, and washed up at this place.
There are several tombs ascribed to Jonah, who was in any case probably fictional, although there was an earlier prophet of the same name who may have been a real person. The best-known ancient tomb was in Mosul and was destroyed by religious fanatics in 2015.
