Ely Cathedral, in Ely, Norfolk, England more
“The first mention of a religious foundation at Ely occurs shortly after the introduction of Christianity into Britain, and especially into that part of the island called East Anglia, where Ethelbert, the principal Saxon King, founded a church.” (p. 217, July 1830)
Although the quoted text might be right about the founding of Ely cathedral, the present building was begun in 1081. I should also note that excavations in Southampton by Colin Platt and others have since shown that the first known contact with Christianity occured probably as early as the 1st Century C.E. and certainly no later than the second.
