The Bridge at Durham, in Durham, Durham, England more
Etched by J.C. Varrall from a drawing by Thomas Hearne in the British Museum. Walter & Boutall ph. sc.
The picture shows Elvet Bridge, which was originally built in the 12th century, repaired in 1500 and again in 1771, and which is one of only three bridges in Engand to have houses on them, although there are fewer structures today than pictured, I think.
Thomas Hearne (1744 – 1817) was an admired and accomplished landscape (‘topographical’) artist.

I have an excellent hardcover book about Thomas Hearne, Thomas Hearne and his landscape by David Morris; you can order a copy through amazon.com.
