Late Homecoming more
signposts, people, crossroads, roads, lanes, rural scenes, birds, crows, death, sythes, bare feet, hats, sitting
A young man (I think) sits on the ground near a signpost where four country lanes meet in a crossroads. He wears a hat and is barefoot. In the distance another man walks away, carrying a scythe. Black crows fly overhead.
The scene was drawn to illustrate a German poem by Ernst Scherenberg called Späte Heimkehr, which is, Late Homecoming. I have not found a useful translation of the poem, although Google Translate makes a valient effort.
The poem seems to mention death and graves but I amnot sure why. It is a section of the book entitled herbst, or Autumn.
