The Fire glows, burns, and consumes to ashes.
A spark of it struck out of a flint, or firestone (2) by means of a steel (1) and taken by tinder in a tinder-box (3) lights a match (4) and after that a candle (5) or stick 6) and causes a flame (7) or blaze (8) which catches hold of the houses.
Smoke (9) rises up from the fire, and, sticking to the chimney, turns into soot.
From a firebrand, orburning stick, is made a brand (11). Of a hot coal is made a dead cinder (12). That which is left is, at the end, ashes (13) and embers (or hot ashes).
