Although the present royal family of England are descended from Lady Margaret Douglas, she is a person of whom little is positively known. But as the mother of Lord Darnley she possesses considerable interest; for it was from her that this unfortunate boy-husband of Mary Stuart received his earliest training, and as we study her personal history we become familiar with much that relates to the son.
